RUNNING AND LEARNING

Integrating running and learning is easy. First, there are those big beautiful bib numbers that you get at every event. Then there's distance and time. But that's not all. Read about how my first grade class got started with a running/learning unit.

MRS. GOODROW'S CLASS WANTS USED RUNNING NUMBERS

Dear Runners,
We are in grade 1 and our teacher is a runner. She collects running numbers for our classroom and hangs them from the ceiling. We were wondering if we could have one of your running numbers, please!

We need numbers from 1 to 200. We already have numbers 2,12, 13, 24, 25, 37, 39 51, 55, 59 60, 61, 64, 66, 69, 72, 78, 79, 80, 83, 98, 99, 110, 114, and 123.

We use the numbers to count how many days of school we have had. Some of us have even memorized which numbers we have! And sometimes we need to look at them if we are mixed up on our numbers. Two of our fathers are runners, but they usually get high numbers like 4,728. If you decide to send us a used running number . . . we will mail you a photograph of your number hanging from our ceiling and one of us will write you a thank-you note. We know you are the greatest people. Our teacher tells us all about you.

Sincerely,
Mrs. Goodrow's Class
